What is ecological color?

Man has taken care of nature and its resources with the industrial explosion of the last 150 years and now, having begun to understand perhaps not yet in depth the problems that will follow in the coming years, he has begun to look for corrective actions.

The information realizes that their attitude towards the environment must be differentiated and they must begin to respect nature and its resources.

Businesses are beginning to realize that their activities in many cases affect the environment and that they are responsible for addressing the problems they face.

The Member States of the Union have included the protection of the environment in the Maastricht Treaty as one of the goals of a united Europe, bearing in mind that sustainable economic development is impossible without respect for the environment.

The goal is to design, produce and distribute products that are less harmful to the environment throughout their life cycle.

With this in mind, it was implemented in March 1992 in the Community Eco-label Award System (EEC Regulation 880/1992), which comes on the basis of documented, objective and scientific criteria to assess whether a product is ecological or not.

The aim is for the Ecological products not to lag behind in terms of their technical characteristics and performance.

This framework is voluntary, aiming to cover as many product categories as possible and the criteria to be re-evaluated every five years.

Every product that meets the criteria, is certified with the ECOLOGICAL SIGN OF THE EUROPEAN UNION.

Only any product that bears the eco-label, can be characterized as ECOLOGICAL!

The Eco-label system is

  • pan-European
  • Optional
  • Selective
  • Transparent and representative
  • Approved officially
  • It is based on multiple criteria
  • Has a distinctive logo (the flower)

The ecological criteria are determined based on how much the product pollutes “from the cradle to the grave”, ie in each of the stages of its life, starting from the extraction and production of raw materials, continuing with the process, packaging, distribution. , use, duration, resulting in final disposal in the environment. The following factors (multiple criteria) are taken into account in all these stages:

  • air, water quality
  • soil protection, waste reduction
  • energy saving, natural resource management
  • preventing global warming
  • protection of the ozone layer
  • environmental safety, noise
  • technical characteristics and performance of the product during application and use
  • instructions for safe use and disposal of product residue in the environment

The distinctive logo, (daisy), characterizes all the products to which the Eco-label has been awarded. The daisy-bearing products are recognized by more than 370 million in Europe

The Ecological Criteria for INTERNAL AFFAIRS ΕΕ EU Decision C (2008) 4453} are the component:

  • High coverage and efficiency
  • Low Amounts of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
  • High resistance to frequent washing
  • They do not contain heavy metals or carcinogens and toxic substances
  • They do not contain substances dangerous for the environment and in “their whole life cycle” they pollute the environment little

The Ecological Criteria for EXTERNAL COUNTRIES ΕΕ EU Decision C (2008) 4452} is the article:

  • High coverage and efficiency
  • Low Amounts of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
  • High adhesion, resistance to water and alkaline surfaces
  • Resistance to weather conditions without problems of chalk, peeling, blisters, cracks
  • Claims for satisfaction of properties such as waterproofing, breathability, elasticity and bridging cracks, anti-mold action are verified by an independent body / laboratory.
  • They do not contain heavy metals or carcinogens and toxic substances
  • They do not contain substances that are dangerous for the environment and in “their whole life cycle” they interpret the environment little.

Why ecological colors?

  • The balance in the environment has been disturbed.
  • The planet’s temperature is rising and the climate is changing.
  • The responsibility is on everyone.
  • Do you want your home to be clean, healthy and pleasant inside and out?
Did you think that many other organisms, animals or plants on our planet want the same?
  • Use eco-labeled products.
  • Encourage others to eco-friendly products.
  • There is a way to beautify your home and protect our planet.

What are Ecological colors?

Ecological are the colors that pollute the environment the least in “their whole life cycle”, from the extraction of raw materials, the production process, the packaging, the distribution, the use and the application, the duration, until the final disposal in environment. .
Ecological products combine, without any compromise in quality, the ecological character with the best technical performance, a fact that must be certified by the approved laboratory of the European Union.
On the other hand, any paint that is diluted with water or does not contain ammonia, does not necessarily mean that it is ecological.

What is “Margarita”?

“Margarita” is the Eco-label of the European Union, which certifies the colors that meet the ecological criteria, as they are mentioned in 2002/739 / EC and 2000/1980 / EC. Only products bearing the eco-label can be called ECOLOGICAL.

Are all water-soluble paints ecological?

No! Eco-friendly products are only those that are certified with the Eco-label. Ecological products, throughout their “life cycle”, pollute little in the environment, meet specific criteria of performance, durability, content of solvents and toxic substances and in addition independent organizations that have tested and certified.

Do ecological colors have coverage?

The criteria that require an ecological paint to have an efficiency of at least 8 m² / lt for full coverage, ie for a finished surface (eg 2 coats). This means that the coverage is high.
VECHRO eco-friendly products meet this requirement by ensuring performance greater than 9m² / lit.

Do eco-friendly plastics and acrylics dry faster in the summer months and are harder to paint?

Drying of plastic and acrylic paints is faster especially in the summer months, due to the faster evaporation of water.
A plastic paint or acrylic can be formulated and give satisfactory results, regardless of whether the paint is ecological or not.
All SMALTOPLAST products for interior and exterior surfaces are designed so that they can have access to the special Greek climatic conditions, especially during the summer months.

Why should I paint with ECOLOGICAL SMALTOPLAST, interior or exterior surface?

Why you can:

to achieve great coverage and performance, with a matte finish
to detect strong adhesion and high strength
to have a healthy and safe painting

and to put a little stone in the formation of ecological consciousness in the market.

Is it an eco-label, any sign indicating an ISO 14001 environmental management system?

ISO 14001 refers to an environmental management system implemented by a company and is not related to products, as is the case with ISO 9001.
The eco-label is awarded to products and not to the company.
